INSURANCE CLAIMS

Coverage

What Your Policy May Cover.

Standard homeowners insurance typically covers sudden storm damage, but not everything. Here’s a plain language breakdown of what is and isn’t typically covered, so you know what to expect before we even show up.

Wind Damage

High winds can lift, crack or remove shingles and damage roof edges, flashing and decking. Wind damage from thunderstorms and severe weather is typically covered.

Hail Damage

Hail causes granule loss, cracking and bruising on shingles that isn’t always visible from the ground. It can be significant even when it doesn’t look severe.

Tropical Storm Damage

Wind damage from hurricanes and named storms is typically covered the same way as other wind damage. Some policies apply a separate named storm deductible, usually higher than the regular one, so check yours before storm season.

Falling Debris

Damage from falling trees, limbs or wind-carried debris during a storm is typically covered as a sudden, accidental event.

What Is Not Covered.

Flood Damage

Standard homeowners insurance does not cover flood damage, including water that enters the home from ground level during heavy rain. Flood coverage requires a separate flood insurance policy (NFIP or private). If roof damage comes with flooding, those are two separate claims under two separate policies.

Normal Wear and Tear

Gradual deterioration, aging and maintenance issues are not covered. Insurance is for sudden damage events, not the natural lifespan of roofing materials.

Pre-Existing Damage

Damage that existed before the storm or before your current policy period is typically not eligible for a claim.

Our Role

How We Help With Your Claim.

We’re not a public adjuster. We’re your roofing contractor. Here’s what that means in practice.

01

Free Inspection and Documentation

We inspect your roof and document the storm damage with photos and written notes. That documentation is the foundation of your claim. There is no charge for the inspection.

02

Honest Assessment

We tell you what storm damage we found and how significant it is, so you can decide with your agent whether to file.

03

Adjuster Meeting

When your insurance adjuster comes out, we meet them on site and walk them through the damage we documented.

04

The Repair or Replacement

Once your claim is approved, we complete the repair or replacement to the approved scope and clean up the jobsite completely before we leave.

What to Know

Setting the Right Expectations.

The insurance claims process takes time and doesn’t always go smoothly. Here’s what most homeowners experience, so you’re not caught off guard.

Timelines Vary

How long a claim takes depends on your carrier, the damage, and how quickly an adjuster can be scheduled. After a major storm, adjusters are busy and timelines run longer.

Your Deductible Applies

Your policy includes a deductible, the amount you pay regardless of the claim total. Texas law requires you to pay it, and makes it illegal for a contractor to offer to waive, rebate or absorb it.

Not All Claims Are Approved

Insurance companies may deny a claim, approve part of it, or dispute the scope of damage. The final decision rests with your carrier, and we cannot guarantee a specific outcome.

Multiple Visits Are Normal

Expect our inspection, the adjuster’s visit, and sometimes a reinspection. We keep you informed at every step.

Important Information

What You Should Know.

We believe in being upfront. Please read the following before moving forward.

We are a roofing contractor, not a public adjuster.

Roofing Brigade documents roof damage and meets with your adjuster in our role as your roofing contractor. We do not negotiate claims on your behalf, and there is no charge for our help with your claim. Negotiating a claim for a policyholder is the role of a licensed public adjuster.

We cannot guarantee that your claim will be approved.

Claim decisions are made solely by your insurance carrier, based on your policy terms, the adjuster’s findings and the carrier’s own guidelines. We document the damage thoroughly, but the outcome is not in our control.

Roofing Brigade is not affiliated with any insurance company.

We are not endorsed by, acting for, or affiliated with your insurance carrier. Our role is your roof: inspecting it, documenting the damage, and doing the work.

We will never offer to waive, rebate or absorb your deductible.

Texas law makes it illegal for a contractor to offer to waive, rebate or absorb a homeowner’s insurance deductible, and requires the homeowner to pay it. Roofing Brigade will never make that offer.
